When is camp open for tours?

We are open year-round for private tours. Just call the office at 516-621-8777 or email heath@shibleydaycamp.com to set an appointment. We will arrange a personal tour for your family.

What type of transportation do you provide for campers?

Round-trip transportation to camp is included in your child’s tuition. There are NO SURCHARGES from any location including Manhattan and Queens. All of our buses are air-conditioned and are driven by professional drivers. Additionally, there is always a bus counselor on the bus to ensure the safety and supervision of all campers.

What flexibility do you offer in terms of vacations and weeks at camp?

You can design your child’s summer around your vacation schedule. We offer four, five, six, seven and eight-week programs and the weeks don’t have to be concurrent! And, you may add additional weeks during the summer.

What health and medical facilities do you have on the camp grounds?

In our newly renovated Health Center we have two full-time Registered Nurses on staff, along with a Nursing Assistant. The Health Center is located in the hub of camp next to our Dining Hall facility. We also have at least one EMT on staff and several of our Senior Staff members are CPR & First Aid trained. Our pool Staff are all Red-Cross certified.

What is security like during the camp season?

Security staff is on duty at every camp entrance throughout the entire day. Camp directors and leadership staff spend their day outdoors supervising the facility. We have a security plan in place for our campers and staff.

Do you serve lunch? What type of menu do you provide?

We serve a variety of hot and cold lunch items every day. We can accommodate most allergies, sensitivities and dietary restrictions. Kosher food is also available upon request. If you have any dietary concerns please call the office at 516-621-8777.

What items should my child bring to camp on the first day?

Well in advance of Opening Day, you will receive a list of clothing items your child will need from bathing suits to shoes and sweatshirts. Towel service is provided for all campers.

How do you communicate with parents during the summer?

Camp leadership communicates via phone and email during the summer. We prefer parents call the office regarding any issue so that our excellent office staff can speak with you directly, and pass your message to the appropriate member of our Leadership Team. All camp staff are on the grounds and actively engaged with campers during the day. Return phone calls are usually made after 4:15 pm. Parents will also receive newsletters during the summer and are encouraged to follow us on Facebook for additional access to important announcements.

My child wants to be with a friend this summer — how can you make sure that happens?

We make every effort to place children with their friends both at camp and during our Sleepaway Week. Just note your preference on your enrollment form, or call the office to let us know that you have this special request.

What do you do on rainy days?

On rainy days the schedule is adjusted so that all campers receive a full program of modified and appropriate activities. Junior Campers stay on the grounds and participate/play in creative arts activities, indoor sports areas, our covered Green Giant playground and other dry areas. Senior campers also have a modified program of dry activities at Shibley and may go off-site to bowl, bounce or see a movie.

Do you have parent visitation in the summer?

Parent Visitation Days are scheduled in July. You will receive details before camp starts with the date and time so you can make plans. During the one hour visitation you will see your child swim and participate in a camp activity.

What are the qualifications of your staff?

Shibley staff are hired and trained through a rigorous process which includes personal interviews with directors, background checks, multiple references and extensive training. We hire excellent teachers, coaches, parents & students who love to work with children and are passionate about providing them with an outstanding camp experience. Many staff members began at Shibley as young campers and/or have worked on staff for 15+ years!
