Job Descriptions

Group Leaders

Shibley Group Leaders are experienced teachers and trained professionals who are directly responsible for campers within a given age group. Group Leaders coordinate and supervise all group activities. Group Leaders communicate directly with camper families and report to Junior & Senior Camp Directors.

General Counselors

Shibley counselors spend the day participating in all activities with their campers. Counselors assist with swim instruction, lunch and any other camper needs throughout the day. They are supervised by and directly report to a Group Leader.

Activity Specialists

Activity Specialists at Shibley supervise specific areas at camp and teach specific skill sets related to that activity, such as Arts & Crafts, Athletics, Adventure Park/Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Air Bungee, Science, Cooking etc.

Aquatics Staff

Aquatics Staff members must have Lifeguard Training, Nassau County Lifeguard Certification, and CPR certification. Lifeguards work directly with campers under the supervision of the Swim Head at one of our 4 heated pools. Each lifeguard is assigned a small group of campers to provide daily American Red Cross swim instruction. Lifeguards maintain records of each camper’s swim progress and supervise recreational swim in the afternoon.

Health Center Staff

Shibley hires RNs, LPNs, and nursing students. The health center staff is responsible for treating minor injuries, dispensing medication, insuring the health and safety of our campers and staff, maintaining proper medical records, and communicating with parents.

Office Staff

The Office Staff work in our summer office answering phone calls, compiling attendance records, coordinating camper transportation, using computers for communications and record-keeping, delivering parental communications to Group Leaders and assisting in the overall day to day camp operations.

Kitchen & Dining Room Staff

Kitchen and Dining Room Staff work in the kitchen preparing and serving lunch. They are also responsible for maintaining the dining room.

Maintenance Staff

The maintenance staff is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of our beautiful camp grounds and facilities.
